Motorized Shades Installation in Cincinnati

Of all the smart home features we install, motorized shades are the one nobody regrets. South-facing windows drop automatically during the hottest afternoon. Once you stop touching shade cords, you don’t go back.

Shade Types

Four Types of Motorized Shades

Roller Shades

The most common motorized shade. Clean lines, modern look. Available in light-filtering, room-darkening, or full blackout. Cassette and fascia options to match the architecture.

Roman Shades

Soft folds when raised, flat panel when lowered. Traditional aesthetic. Beautiful in formal living areas, libraries, dining rooms.

Drapery Tracks

Motorized rods that open and close drapes silently. Perfect for primary bedrooms, formal living rooms, theater rooms where drapes are the design choice.

Outdoor Shades

Weatherproof retractable shades for patios, screened porches, outdoor entertainment areas. Block sun, wind, and pollen — extending Cincinnati outdoor season.

Shade FAQs

Battery or hardwired?

Both work. Hardwired is more reliable and we recommend it for new construction. Battery shades are perfect for retrofits — they last 2-3 years on a charge, recharge via USB or QS hub.

How much does a motorized shade cost?

Roller shades: $500-$1,500 per window installed. Roman: $700-$2,500. Drapery tracks: $1,000-$5,000. Outdoor: $1,500-$6,000. Whole-home install of 15-25 windows typically lands $15K-$50K.

Will my Lutron shades integrate with Control4?

Yes. Lutron shades integrate natively with Control4. “Goodnight” scene drops all shades. “Morning” raises them. Plus astronomical clock automation for the hottest afternoon hours.

Fabric, Motor, and Schedule — the Three Decisions That Matter

Motorized shades are one of the few upgrades that change a house every single day, because the sun does. In Cincinnati that means a south-facing great room that bakes from two to five in July, a two-story foyer nobody can reach with a wand, and bedrooms where the difference between a good night and a bad one is a shade that closes at dusk on its own. Once the schedule is set, you stop thinking about it — which is the whole point.

The first decision is fabric. Light-filtering screens keep the view and cut the glare; blackout fabrics for bedrooms and theaters; dual-roller systems for rooms that need both. The second is the motor. We install Lutron shades on nearly every project because the motors are quiet, the battery-powered options make retrofits painless, and they join the same system as the Lutron lighting. Hard-wired motors for new construction; battery or plug-in for finished homes in Hyde Park, Indian Hill, and Anderson Township.

The third decision is the schedule, and this is where an integrator earns the job. Astronomic timeclocks track sunrise and sunset through the year; a “Goodnight” scene closes the bedroom shades with the lights; the west-facing shades drop at the hottest part of a summer afternoon and rise again when the sun is off the glass. All of it runs locally on the Lutron processor and is available by keypad, app, or Josh.ai voice.

Shade Questions

Motorized Shade FAQs for Cincinnati

What do motorized shades cost?

Motorized shades start around $900 per window for standard sizes, with most full-home installs falling between $8,000 and $45,000 depending on window count, fabric, and integration with lighting or a smart home system. See our pricing page.

Do motorized shades need wiring?

Not for retrofits. Battery-powered Lutron shades install in a finished home with no new wiring and run for years between charges. For new construction we hard-wire power at the window heads.

Can I match my existing window treatments?

Yes. Shades can be inside-mount and nearly invisible, or paired with drapery and valances from your designer. We coordinate fabric samples with the rest of the room.

Will they work with my Control4 or Josh.ai system?

Yes — Lutron shades join lighting scenes, schedules, and voice control on the same platform.

How long does installation take?

Most whole-home shade installs are one to three days after fabric lead time, which typically runs four to eight weeks.
