Audio Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Sonos vs Sonance vs Klipsch — which do I want?

Sonos is the streaming and zone-control layer (it’s the brain). Sonance and Klipsch are the speakers (the hardware). Most whole-home audio installs use BOTH — Sonos amps driving Sonance hidden in-wall speakers in primary rooms, Sonos Move/Roam for portable, Klipsch for outdoor or theater.

How much does whole-home audio cost?

Entry-level Sonos with 3-4 zones using their wireless speakers: $3,000-$8,000. Mid-range with 8-12 zones of in-ceiling Sonance speakers and Sonos Amps: $15,000-$30,000. Premium with reference-grade Sonance/KEF/Klipsch throughout: $35,000-$100,000+.

Can I add to my Sonos system later?

Yes — Sonos is modular by design. Start with the primary 4-5 rooms, add zones over time. The system grows with you.

Will outdoor speakers survive Cincinnati winters?

Yes. We install IP-rated weatherproof speakers (Sonance Landscape, Klipsch outdoor) rated for snow, ice, summer heat. Cincinnati climate is well within their design envelope.

How We Design Whole-Home Audio

Speakers Nowhere, Music Everywhere — and Why the Wiring Matters More Than the Brand

Whole-home audio is not a box you buy; it is a set of decisions about where sound should be and how invisible it should stay. In a Cincinnati home we typically start with six to eight zones: kitchen, great room, primary suite, office, lower level, patio, and often the garage and gym. Each zone gets speakers chosen for the room — in-ceiling Sonance for living spaces, invisible plaster-over speakers where the ceiling has to stay clean, Klipsch or Sonance landscape speakers outside — and all of them come back to one rack.

That rack is the part you never see and the reason the system still works in ten years. Distributed amplification, a proper network switch, and labeled home runs to every speaker mean a zone can be reassigned, upgraded, or added without opening walls. The control layer sits on top: Sonos for most families, because everyone already knows how to use it, or Control4 when audio needs to join lighting, shades, and video in the same scenes. See our Sonos page for the wireless-first version.

The difference between a system people use every day and one they forget is the first month. We set the zones up with the streaming services you actually use, group the rooms the way you live (upstairs, main floor, outside), tune each zone to the room, and walk everyone in the house through it. After that, “play jazz in the kitchen” works whether you ask Josh.ai, tap a keypad, or pull out your phone.

Whole-Home Audio Questions

More Whole-Home Audio FAQs

What does whole-home audio cost in Cincinnati?

Starter systems with three to four zones start around $3,500–$10,000. A typical six-to-eight zone system with hidden architectural speakers runs $8,000 to $30,000 installed. Larger homes, premium speakers, and Control4 integration take it higher. See our pricing page.

Can you add whole-home audio to a finished house?

Yes. We fish wire through ceilings and closets for most rooms and use Sonos wireless zones where a wire path is not practical. Retrofits in Hyde Park, Anderson Township, and Mason are a large share of our audio work.

Sonos or Sonance — do I have to choose?

No. Sonos is the streaming and control layer; Sonance are the speakers in the ceiling. Most of our systems use both, with Sonos amps driving Sonance architectural speakers.

Will the outdoor zone survive Cincinnati winters?

Yes. We install weather-rated landscape and patio speakers designed for freeze-thaw cycles, with amplification kept indoors in the rack.

Can you take over a system another company installed?

Yes. We inherit orphaned audio systems regularly — retune the zones, replace failed amps, and get you back on one app.
